Dual Diagnosis Treatment for Men

Dual Diagnosis

Why is dual diagnosis necessary for successful recovery? If a patient has both a drug and alcohol problem combined with an emotional/psychiatric problem—it is important both issues are acknowledged and treated in order to accomplish long-term sobriety.

Every patient who enters our facility will not require a dual diagnosis, but it is more frequent than you might imagine. The Journal of the American Medical Association reports that 29% of individuals diagnosed with mental illness also suffer from drug or alcohol abuse. Additionally, 37% of alcohol abusers and 57% of drug abusers possess at least one serious mental illness.

These overwhelming statistics bring to light the importance of finding a rehabilitation center that checks for pre-existing mental conditions upon entering a program. Our medical staff provides an extensive medical evaluation upon entering Freeman Recovery Center. After detoxification (if necessary), it is critical that both substance and emotional conditions are treated simultaneously. Our dual diagnosis system is designed to confront each problem head on and prevent relapse.

Some of the mental disorders we treat include:
